planet Earth
Evolution theory requires the Earth to be at between four and five billion years old. But no one knows how old the Earth really is. We have no way to produce an accurate measure of the age of the Earth.
Most people just assume the Earth to be very old. Evolutionists require the Earth to be at least four billion years old because their theory requires a huge amount of time for the Earth and all its living creatures to evolve.
Christians don't really need to put a time on the age of the Earth, at least those who accept the Genesis version of Creation. They can accept a very young Earth because that is what the Christian Bible says.
Science and the age of the Earth?
Planet Earth might look old but there are many factors which indicate that it could be a lot younger than the evolutionists accepts.
- The continents are eroding too rapidly for the process to have gone on for billions of years.
- The concentration of helium in the atmosphere should be greater if the Earth was as old as evolutionists want to believe.
- Fossils do not seem to need long periods of time to form. Some appear to have been created in a short period of time.
- The oceans do not contain enough salt if water has run off the land into the sea for ages.
- Our regular comets in space should not have tails if they have been in orbit for a long time.
The geological evidence for a young Earth
There are several ways in which geological evidence supports the concept of a 'young' Earth.
- indications of youth in surface features
- the rapidity of geological actions
- indications of flood origin of sediments
