Faith and Science
It is a question of faith whether a person believes they are the product of design or a product of pure random chance.
Faith in evolution is faith in a purely random process. Apart from whatever people choose to do during their lives there is no purpose in their existence at all.
Evolution condemns people to a brief existence and then nothing. So it doesn't really matter what they do with their lives. Why bother to respect the law? Surely as long as a person can avoid being caught breaking the law then absolutely anything is acceptable! And I do mean 'anything' Stealing, abusing, killing etc are all perfectly acceptable behaviours. Why not? There is no comeback. There is no existence after death. So what if Stalin is in the history books as a mass murderer? Evolutionary thinking is that it doesn't effect him now, so what does it matter what he did then? All one has to do is to not get caught!
Please be clear about the above statement. If you believe in evolution then you accept this statements. There is no middle ground! The fact that legal systems impose standards of behaviour (and punishments for failing to meet those standards) is nothing to do with evolution. A person has to be caught to be punished!
There is no doubt that Evolution is a religion in itself! It might be cloaked in science but it is a religion in every definition of the term. The one difference is that there is no way that anyone is saved by this religion. Every believer of it is condemned. No one, not even their high priests, can look forward to anything except annihilation!
Without going into the details of the various religions it is fairly obvious that a society that attempts to follow a given standard of behaviour is going to be a lot more orderly and a lot less savage, than a society where the people believe that their lives are of no value and they can do whatever it takes to gain themselves an advantage.
The various faiths in the world
There are a number of faith systems available for people to choose from. Ironicly, athiesm is a belief system in itself, which is of course a definition of a faith!
In reality most people adopt the faith system, at least initially, of the families they are born within.
Science and Evolution
One of the current battlegrounds between faith systems is that of Christianity versus Evolution. Although Evolution claims to be based on science and not on any belief system, in reality it is a religion in the same way that Christianity and the other faith systems are religions.
Evolution is a faith system with fixed beliefs such as 'the universe was created from nothing'. They believe in a gradual process involving millions of years for all the lifeforms on planet Earth to appear from nothing and these life forms gradually changed into different and more complex forms. There is no after life or existance after death.
